The responsibility for a child's social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development lies primarily with the family and the student. Academy School District Twenty's responsibility is to work cooperatively with the family and the student to foster this development by providing students with a broad, challenging, academically rigorous curriculum along with effective assessment and objective feedback. The school environment should be positive, physically safe, and intellectually stimulating. All programs should be delivered by caring and highly qualified teachers and staff.
Because the core academic areas of science, mathematics, social studies, and language arts (including foreign language and literature) are central to responsible citizenship and widely applicable to virtually all future endeavors, they shall form the curricular foundation. This curriculum will be supported and enriched by academic treatments of the fine arts, vocational/career education, and physical education. In addition, participation in extracurricular activities will be encouraged. The curriculum should provide students with the cognitive abilities and critical thinking skills necessary for further education, training, and successful integration into the work force.
